How's this for a blast from the past?
This is Todd and me 20 years ago today. It was a very hot day, around 105 degrees as I recall, and our wedding was at 2:00 in the afternoon. Everything went off without a hitch, we had a lot of fun, and we were surrounded by friends and family.
For those of you who don't know, we actually met in Tahiti. It was the summer of 1987 and I was working as a travel agent. Todd was working on board a small cruise ship (86 passengers). I had earned a free cruise, but it was free for just one and none of my friends were able to go with me. About halfway through the cruise we met on the beach of a tiny island. I had been snorkeling and when I came out of the water to get my towel (oh, so attractive with my mask & fins), Todd was standing right beside my pile of stuff talking with another passenger. The other passenger walked away, we started talking, and the rest, as they say, is history.
That's the short story. Trust me, you don't want to hear the long version!
And here's what we look like now, 20 years later. (Well, sort of. This picture was actually taken last year but it's pretty close.) Yep, we look older. :) Hopefully, we've gained some wisdom along with those wrinkles and spare tires! We've been through multiple career changes, had a couple of foster kids, a refugee from Ethiopia lived with us for a year, and we started a business. We've had a chance to travel a bit, we both experienced the terminal illness and death of a parent, and have dealt with illnesses of our own. My one pet cat turned into several pet rescues (Todd has a habit of bringing forlorn animals home with him) and we now have quite a menagerie.
So here we are, for better or worse, richer or poorer, in sickness and in health, twenty years into our marriage. We're looking forward to many more!
